Home Tour: My bedroom

I have always been a nosy person, especially when it comes to other people's home decor.

When I am driving at night, I just love looking into brightly lit windows and seeing how a house is decorated.

Creepy? Oh, yes.

I've decided to do a few different blog posts starring the different rooms in my campus house in hopes that my house-creeping-karma will be back on the positive side. Or something like that.

Really, I just like sharing things.

The room I will be showing you today is...my bedroom!
My bed and desk area. This is where I spend most of my time (meaning my bed, not my desk).
This is my favorite way to store/display pretty statement necklaces.

So much storage going on here from books to perfume!

My perfume tray (AKA plate bought from TJMaxx) and jewelry box

Some of my favorite books!

I LOVE this tall window and the wide window sill.

Jewelry tree I HAD to have from PBTeen when I was in high school and slightly obsessed with everything PBTeen. The other dish is actually a soap dish from Ikea that I was using as an ice cream bowl until a friend showed me how she used hers for extra jewelry storage. The dish feels much warmer in this new role.

More books!

Such a comfy bed. I only wish it wasn't a teeny twin!

My desk area (Note: more homework is accomplished while sitting in my bed)
And that is my bedroom! The closet and bathroom that are connected to my room deserve their own posts. They are just that fabulous. So stay tuned!

Happy Monday!

One of the weirdest things I've ever done

This past Friday, my friend and I stopped at Barnes & Noble. My mom and I were attending my cousin's baby shower that evening, and I was given the task of choosing the two children's books we would be bringing.

I knew exactly what two books my cousin's bebe needed.

Madeline and Eloise.

Nothing else would do!

After finding Madeline in London, my friend and I searched everywhere for the lovely Eloise. We eventually ventured over to customer service where we discovered that the store was all sold out of EVERY Eloise book!

Quelle dommage!

We began to make our way back to the children's section when another book caught my eye.

I couldn't believe it.

It was a counting book version of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice!!!!!!!!

As in Pride and Prejudice for babies!

Okay, here is where the weird/creepy part of the story comes in.

I bought two copies of the book- one for the shower and one for my future offspring.

Yeah. Super awkward and strange.

Especially considering that 1) I am single, and 2) I probably will not be bearing children for another ten years.

Just another normal day in the life of Jane Austen addict.

How did I live without you?

I recently introduced something extraordinary into my life that I now do not know how I ever did without.

My electric blanket.

My campus house gets COLD. It was built in 1900, and I'm fairly certain they passed on any form of insulation.

Our thermostat is also a total liar and likes to say it is 70 degrees in here while it is truly a good ten degrees cooler. It thinks it is just hilarious that way.

Every night now, I warm up my electric blanket while I'm getting ready for bed so that by the time I snuggle into my covers, I can unplug it and enjoy the heat before I fall asleep.

It is absolutely cozy and divine.

I don't know how I ever lived without it.

My mom keeps telling me that I am bound to either a) catch on fire or b) make myself infertile.

I make sure to never actually sleep with the electric blanket on, ensuring that if it would randomly catch fire, I would be awake and able to thump it out quickly. Or stop, drop, and roll. Whichever.

As for the future offspring issue, that is just a risk I'll have to take.

Thoughtful people do exist!

Sometimes, I feel as though I encounter waaay too many rude people.

Yesterday though, I stopped into Starbuck's on my way to class and ordered a grande Java Chip Frappucino. Whipped cream and all.
via
I never order skinny drinks at Starbuck's.

Go big or go home.

Oh, God. I can't believe I just wrote that.

Anyway.

The barista was topping off my drink with beautiful swirls of chocolate syrup, and he accidentally drizzled quite a bit on the sides of my cup.

He wiped it off, but as he was handing the drink to me, he stopped and said, "Oh, no! You're wearing white gloves. I'll clean this off better for you."

Then, he proceeded to take my drink to the sink where he washed it really well and ensured that my white gloves would not be endangered by chocolate sauce.

I thought it was extremely thoughtful of him, and it made my Thursday a much brighter one.

Tuesday and Thursday Torture

In addition to being an English major, I am also an International Business minor.

I absolutely loved my International Businesses classes when I was learning about the EU or Global Business Environments, but these past few quarters I've had to fight my way through Business Statistics. Also known as really hard math. Especially for those who are not mathematically-inclined.

My stats class last quarter was nice in that our grade consisted of four homework assignments and three exams. I felt like I was able to relax during class and attempt to soak the material in.

This quarter is a dramatically different story.

My class is in a two-hundred person lecture hall (something I am very unaccustomed to as an English major), and I do not know a single fellow classmate. My professor does something called "cold call," where he will randomly call on people during class to answer questions.

Last class (our first one of the quarter), he was already asking questions from the previous quarter's material.

I literally sat in my seat wanting to cry or throw up. I was so nervous!

I don't think it would be so bad if he randomly called on me in a twenty or even fifty person class, but the thought of shouting out an answer (that is likely wrong) in front of two-hundred people makes my stomach flip.
Here is me (if I was a boy) trying to answer a stats question.
Besides his cruel "cold call" method, he also is basing our final grade on tests, assignments, ten (!!!!) pop quizzes, case studies, and group projects (groups chosen by ourselves).

Um, remember the fact that I do not know a single other person in this class? That should make group projects REALLY wonderful.

Please pray for me.

Update: Class was much better today. I wore my smart glasses and got a Starbuck's Java Chip frappucino on the way to class. I sat in the second row in the auditorium (so if I was called on, I would not have to shout the answer), and I even acquired TWO GROUP MEMBERS!

Morale is back up!

Good intentions

This morning, I woke up promptly at 7AM in order to accompany my friend to the gym.

It was 17 degrees outside and completely dark.

I sort of wanted to cry.

I pleaded to God that my clock had been set three hours ahead. This, of course, was not the case.

We decided to drive over to the gym since the sun was no where in sight, and we parked in a metered spot relatively close to the rec center.

My friend inserted the only two quarters we had between ourselves.

"The meter took the quarters, but they aren't showing up!" My exercise enthusiast friend explained. "What should we do?"

I decided it was best we didn't risk a potential ticket and gallantly volunteered to drive the car back home so she could get her workout in.

I then changed into my pajamas and snuggled back into my warm bed.

It was the least I could.

In 2012, I will essentially be perfect.

Firstly, HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope you had a wonderful New Year's Eve with pink champagne and an obscene amount of glitter.
So pretty!
I am going to be completely and unapologetically unoriginal today and write about my resolutions for the year ahead.

1. Take my eye makeup off every night before bed. This is embarrassing, but there are a few (okay, many) nights where after brushing my teeth, I think that I simply cannot muster up the energy to remove my makeup.
This is what I look like at night AND in the morning.
2. Make a meal from a recipe once a week. My meals largely consist of Lean Cuisines, Progresso soups, and couscous. This needs to change.
I just bought this off Amazon and cannot wait to cook something from it!
3. Exercise every day. I want to get some form of exercise in every day, whether it be running on the treadmill or simply doing half an hour of yoga.
This is so tranquil.
4. Do more reading and spend less time on the Internet. I have so many books on my bookshelf or on my Amazon wish list that I really want to read! I'm sure I'd have more time to read them all if I stopped doing so much online shopping. I'd also have more money.
Such a cozy reading room!
5. Be more frugal. Meh. This one is going to be difficult. Possibly impossible.
What in the world is in that HUGE Sephora bag?
6. Drink lots of water. I bought one of those adorable Bobble water bottles, and I hope its cuteness will inspire me to become obsessed with drinking H2O.
Adorable.
7. Do not eat anything after dinner. Not only did this really help me lose weight, it also helped me sleep better at night. It can be really difficult some evenings, but I think it's worth the occasional stomach rumblings.
Yum. I want to eat this now.
Obviously I am going to stick to all of these resolutions and be perfect.
